Renaissance music

Unknown author. England. XVI cent.
The Queen Of Hearts

“To the queen of hearts goes the ace of sorrow.
He is here today, he is gone tomorrow…
Young men are plenty but sweet-hearts few,
I’d leave them all to go with you…”

Very nice and sad words.

G. Caccini, Italy. XVI cent. (?)
Ave Maria

It seems that in the XVI century this harmony model was called «passamezzo». In jazz music it’s called “harmony swing”. Many songs of today are written with the help of this harmony.

France, England. XVI cent.
Christmas Choral

Germany. Advent. Christmas eve. We are riding in a taxi. A Christmas concert is being broadcast over the radio. One can hear that somebody is teaching the audience of a huge hall to sing the choral to the accompaniment of a symphony orchestra. We are envious… But do we sing worse? Worse than the audience I mean?

Thomas Morley, England. XVI cent.
Phelomela

Love lyrics, archaic language, bold text. So bold that hardly we’ll dare to sing the song in Russian.

Í. Neusiedler – D. Monakhov
Dance

It’s so simple to do it. You just take a remarkable piece of music then add a couple of your notes to it. The masterpiece is unlikely to suffer much from it.
